The purpose of the St. Andrew's School Teacher Association (SASTA) is to represent the professional interests of the faculty. Membership of the Association is open to all teachers at St Andrew's School, and there is an annual membership fee of $50 due each November.
The objectives and goals of SASTA are to:
- Represent the teachers' position to administration and the board on employment related issues, including but not limited to salary negotiations and conditions of service.
- Provide a proper forum for open discussions of matters affecting the Association and its members.
- Promote social interaction within the faculty of St Andrew's School.
- Raise funds for scholarship students and other worthy causes.
The Association annually appoints, by election, eight Executive Officers. The Executive Officers consist of a President, Vice President, Treasurer, Secretary, two Primary School Representatives and two Secondary School Representatives.
General meetings are held at least once a trimester and there is also an Annual Election Meeting in June. The Executive team meets on a more frequent basis.
At the beginning of each school year, SASTA helps to arrange a 'buddy' for all new overseas hires. Our buddies assist new hires in adjusting to the Bahamas and the school.
SASTA strives to promote a sense of community among the faculty and arranges various social events, including an annual Thanksgiving lunch, a Christmas party, and an end of year party.
