As a member of St Andrew's School Bahamas Association of Independent Secondary Schools (BAISS), our Hurricanes compete against 13 other local schools of various sizes. Thanks to the amazing work of our P.E. faculty and coaches, since 2000, our Hurricanes have won 48 championships, 25% of the total! The St Andrew's Hurricanes continue to "punch above our weight!"
BAISS Inter-School sports competitions include: Softball, Basketball, Soccer, Track & Field, Volleyball, and Swimming.
In the 2010/2011 BAISS competitions, the Hurricanes had:
- All 4 teams in the Finals of Soccer for the 5th straight year, with Junior Girls and Senior Boys taking the championships (5th straight year for Senior Boys!)
- Senior Girls and Senior Boys taking the Softball championships (4th straight year for Senior Boys and 3 out of the last 4 for Senior Girls!)
- 2nd Place at the Swim Gala (hosted at our on-campus pool)
- Junior and Senior Girls in the Basketball Playoffs
As a whole, our Hurricanes have had an amazing run on the sports front. As our Spirit Shirts said this year, “Go Hard or Go Home” - our student athletes show a steely determination when it is game time. Some of our students are multitalented, and we have had students represent the Bahamas in a number of sports.
School colours are awarded to Senior (over 14 years) and Junior (14 years and younger) team members for inter-school competitions only. Colour certificates are awarded at the end of the summer term.
To qualify for sports colours, students must meet either of the following criteria:
- Participate in a team sport for a majority of the team's schedule with a high level of consistency and sportsmanship.
- Set an inter-school record, win a gold medal or achieve a high level of consistency in an individual sport, such as swimming or track and field.
Colours may be withdrawn or not awarded in cases of misconduct or poor sportsmanship.
